About Kyo-kanoko Shibori
Craftsmanship in every tiny knot
Kyo Kanoko Shibori is one of Kyoto’s traditional crafts, created by tying fabric with thread before dyeing it.
The small raised patterns are made by pinching the fabric and tying each section by hand, one by one.
Because the pattern looks similar to the spots on a fawn, it is called “Kanoko” (fawn pattern).
The soft texture and delicate uneven surface cannot be created by machines, making each piece a true expression of handcraftsmanship.
During the process, artisans carefully control the strength and spacing of every single knot.
Even a small mistake can affect the final pattern, so great concentration and skill are required.
Kyo-kanoko Shibori is created through patience, experience, and careful handwork passed down through generations.
A traditional craft where no two pieces are the same
Because every knot is tied by hand, no two pieces of Kyo-kanoko Shibori are exactly alike.
Each fabric has its own unique expression and character that cannot be mass-produced.
There are also many different tying techniques, each creating different patterns, textures, and three-dimensional effects.
Since the process requires a great amount of time and skill, Kyo-kanoko Shibori is now considered a rare and valuable traditional craft.
Miyako and Kyo-kanoko Shibori
Miyako creates dog accessories using the soft texture and gentle beauty of Kyo-kanoko Shibori.
Through the careful handwork placed into every tiny knot, we hope to make the time spent with your beloved dog even more special.
Because every piece of Shibori fabric has a different expression, each item brings out the individuality of every dog and creates a truly one-of-a-kind style.
Miyako uses fabrics created together with “Uketugu Company KYOTO” and traditional artisan Mitsuo Matsuda, who continue to preserve and share the beauty of Kyo-kanoko Shibori.
