About Tango Chirimen
One of Japan’s finest silk textiles
Tango Chirimen is a traditional silk textile that has been passed down for more than 300 years in the Tango region of northern Kyoto.
Its most distinctive feature is the fine textured surface called “shibo.”
This texture gives the fabric a smooth feel, elegant appearance, and gentle movement.
The name “Chirimen” comes from the strong twist added to the threads.
By weaving tightly twisted threads together, natural uneven textures are created on the fabric surface, forming the unique “shibo.”
Although chirimen fabrics can be found across Japan, Tango Chirimen is especially known for its high quality and delicate texture.
Lightweight and comfortable to the touch, it has long been used for kimono and high-end traditional clothing.
A fabric with both beauty and function
Tango Chirimen is valued not only for its beauty, but also for its practicality.
The fabric is resistant to wrinkles and highly durable, making it suitable for long-term use.
It also works beautifully with dyeing techniques, allowing for vivid colors and delicate color expression.
Because of this, Tango Chirimen developed together with many traditional Japanese dyeing arts.
Its quality is highly respected both in Japan and internationally, and it is known as one of Japan’s finest silk textiles.
Miyako and Tango Chirimen
Miyako creates dog accessories using the soft texture and elegant shine unique to Tango Chirimen.
Because the fabric is lightweight and gentle, it can be comfortably worn by dogs for both everyday life and special occasions.
Miyako uses exceptional fabrics created by “Tayu,” a prestigious Tango Chirimen weaving house.
Founded in 1931, Tayu carries out every process in-house, from twisting the threads to warping and weaving, creating high-quality Tango Chirimen through skilled craftsmanship.
We hope you enjoy the beauty of Tango Chirimen, passed down through generations in Kyoto, together with your beloved dog.
